Let's dive into it!

How to screen record on Mac with audio via Screenshot Toolbar

Have you ever noticed that Mac has a built-in screen recording feature? If you are using iOS Mojave and later, you can use hotkey to trigger the Screenshot Toolbar for screen recording with audio quickly. You don't need to download any other apps, and it is totally free.

Please note that the Screenshot Toolbar will only record audio from the microphone. It cannot record internal audio, such as the sound from a video playing in a browser window, other participants’ talking in an online meeting, etc. If you want to record your Mac screen with internal audio, you can use third-party screen recorder apps.

If you just want to record the screen with your talking voice, it is good for you. Let's see how to screen record on Mac with microphone audio via Screenshot Toolbar.

Step 1. Press Command + Shift + 5 to activate Screenshot Toolbar.

How to screen record on Mac with audio via QuickTime Player

QuickTime Player comes with every version of macOS for free. It is an excellent media player which offers a screen recording feature as a bonus. In addition, it also allows you to share your recorded videos with ease.

However, due to macOS limitations, QuickTime Player doesn't record system audio. Thankfully, there is a solution if you still want to know how to record audio on Mac or record your Mac screen with both system audio and microphone sound using QuickTime Player. To do so, you can use QuickTime with Soundflower, a free and open-source macOS extension that can pass audio from one application to another.

Check below to learn how to screen record on Mac with audio using QuickTime Player and Soundflower.

Step 1. Download and install Soundflower.

Step 2. Set Soundflower as your audio output device. To do that, please go to "System Preferences" > "Sound" > "Output". Step 4. In the screen recording control bar, click "Options" and check "Soundflower (2ch)" in the "Microphone" option. Soundflower works by rerouting your system audio output to the microphone input. Thus, QuickTime Player thinks it is recording from the microphone, but it actually records the internal audio.
